ABOUT NORTHERN CYPRUS REMEMBER NORTHERN CYPRUS IS NOT IN THE EURO ZONE Known as the ‘unspoiled jewel of the Mediterranean’, Northern Cyprus (known as TRNC, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) has retained all of its natural charm and beauty and offers a unique insight into a quality of life that most of us have only ever dreamed of. Northern Cyprus is unspoilt and untouched by commercialism. It's a land where you can get away from the crowds and discover miles of deserted golden sandy beaches. You can walk in beautiful mountains which are home to rare species of plant and wildlife. Northern Cyprus is an enchanting land where a holiday will feel like a fairytale. Northern Cyprus consists of four major towns, the capital being Lefkosa (Nicosia), the other main town include Magosa (Famagusta) the country’s principal port; Girne (Kyrenia), the main tourist centre well known for its ancient 'horseshoe' harbour, and Guzelyurt the centre of the citrus fruit industry. The British are genuinely welcomed and English is widely spoken and driving is on the left hand side of the road. CLIMATE The climate of the island is of an extreme Mediterranean type with hot summers and relatively cool, short winters. Boasting over 300 days of sunshine a year, the sea temperature is rarely below 16°C and rises to 28-30°C during summer months, making Northern Cyprus one of the healthiest places in the world in which to live. Northern Cyprus is an excellent holiday destination, or even to spend the rest of your life there.
SHOPPING There is an extensive range of consumer goods and services available throughout the island. Many of the popular imported brand names are readily available and can be found in local supermarkets. Fresh local produce can be purchased from a wide variety of markets and small stores.
